Obesity is still an issue. After all the great cooking and wonderful holiday gatherings, we will have managed to consume many rich foods. -Rich in calories and ingredients. I make a point to enjoy myself without any guilt. The holidays and other celebrations are to be enjoyed! However, it's always good to help our body recover from all the fun. Washington DC Crop Hunger Walk 2012

I'm very proud and love that my sister Malinda Dix-Hunt put forth a successful CROP Hunger Walk for 2012. I'm certain the group is still accepting donations from anyone who would like to contribute.

I was thrilled to be a part of the hunger walk.  In the midst of my own financial stresses it was a relief to think of someone else ... to help someone in my community with one of their most basic needs, hunger!  

By myself, ending World Hunger seemed a daunting task.  But gathered together in Southwest I learned that we helped make a difference for those less fortunate in our community by participating in the DC Crop Hunger Walk on Saturday, May 5, at the Christ United Methodist Church (4th and I Streets SW).

We met representatives of Martha's Table and Hunger Revolution and found that there were other ways to get involved in the struggle to end hunger than fund raising.  I was concerned that I had not trained for the walk, it was only a few miles (2-3) but my husband came along to make sure that I was both encouraged and protected.  He and another friend kept me company and I finished the walk with others.  There was only one injury ... a trip and fall on the side walk but she was able to,  with God grace, finish the walk with us.

Well here is a great recipe for Ketchup that your family will love and you can feel good about including as a condiment in your kids lunch sack.

Studies involving the tomato have cropped up all over the world. Tomatoes are rich in lycopene and antioxidants. This ketchup makes for a healthy addition to your Beyond Organic GreenFed burgers or hot dogs.

Healthy Raw Ketchup
Ingredients:

• 1 cup organic tomato, chopped 
• 1 cup organic sun-dried tomatoes, soaked for 30 minutes, drained, and chopped 
• 1 Tablespoon fresh organic garlic, minced 
• 10 fresh organic basil leaves 
• 3 organic dates, pitted 
• 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 
• 1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt 
• 1- 2 Tablespoons Bragg’s raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar 

Directions:
Blend all ingredients together until it forms a paste.
Makes about 2 1/2 cups
